Temuco is a mapudungun word (Mapuche) which means "Water of Temu." This city is the capital of a region called “Region de la Araucanía” and it is located 675 kms. south of Santiago. Nielol Natural Monument is a 89.5 hectares is located in the city of Temuco. There are four hiking trails and at its top there is a beautiful view from the deck. It is administered by CONAF and is regarded as protected wilderness. Its native forest is composed of lingue, laurel, evergreen beech, oak and coigüe: in between these trees copihue grows. There is also abundant fauna, the bandurria, Tiuque, fox, chilla and the monkey of the mountain, the world's smallest marsupial. It has small ponds, gazebos, walking trails, picnic sites, playgrounds, environmental information center and a restaurant with great views of the city. At its summit is the Volcano Observatory in the Andes- South OVDAS unique in Chile and it is not open to the public. You can access the place by going up Prat street and is open all year until 22:00 hours.

PRODUCTION CENTER OF TRADITIONAL CRAFTS OF THE Catholic University of Temuco. Workshops dedicated to the reproduction of Mapuche silverware and ceramics which preserved the traditions of the craft. Maintains a showroom and is located at Avenida Alemana 1442, corner of 18th of Septiembre. The opening hours are Monday through Friday from 09:00 am to 13:00 and 15:00 to 18:00 hours.

About one hundred objects have been recovered in excavations at the Huimpil cemetery , located north of Temuco. The pottery has been the only item that survived the environmental degradation in these latitudes.
